CKSource has been an integral part of the Drupal community for many years, offering and maintaining the highly popular Open Source CKEditor and FCKeditor WYSIWYG modules. In 2013, CKEditor 4 was nominated as the default rich text editor in Drupal 8 core. Now, CKEditor 5 is an experimental, optional core module in Drupal 9 and will go on to be a default core module in Drupal 10, guaranteeing the company’s standing as an essential contributor to the Drupal community.

CKEditor 5

CKEditor 5 is already available for everyone in Drupal 9 and 10. You are free to use it!

If you would like to further extend the experience for your end users, we have a couple of additions you may like that can be integrated with the default CKEditor 5 in Drupal.

1. Drupal.org core contributions.

In 2013, CKEditor 4 became a core module in Drupal 8 and continued to be in the core Drupal 9.

In 2021 December, CKEditor 5 followed suit and became an experimental optional core module in Drupal 9 and will go on to become a default core module in Drupal 10.

2. CKEditor module maintaining.

Since 2009, members of the CKEditor community have been strongly involved in daily maintenance of the Drupal CKEditor module. Since then we have reached: over 700 commits and more than 1,600 issues closed (and counting…).
The CKEditor module has currently been installed more than 270,000 times and has over 1,300,000 downloads. View usage statistics.

3. FCKeditor module maintaining.

The CKEditor team also maintained the retired FCKeditor module from 2005 to 2014, with 661 commits, 1,410 issues closed and 589 bugs closed. The FCKeditor module was installed more than 20,000 times and has reached almost 500,000 downloads.

4. Forum activity.

The CKEditor core team has a strong and active history in Drupal forums, especially regarding CKEditor module issues. The first forum post was posted almost 16 years ago by FredCK (related to FCKeditor).

6. Drupal conferences.

We are actively engaged in the Drupal community events. In 2013, you saw us at the DrupalCon in Prague, delivering a successful presentation and participating in BOFs and coding sprints. In 2014, we joined the DrupalCamp in Wrocław and DrupalCon in Amsterdam, with a session on the new possibilities that CKEditor would bring to Drupal 8.
