Founded by the Foundation for Education Development Sarajevo, IUS was inaugurated in the academic year of 2004/2005. It is located in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The University comprises of the following faculties:

International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is open to students from all over the world, and the language of instruction and communication is English. Students without English proficiency will attend a one-year intensive English Language Program organized by English Language School (ELS).

Vision

The vision of IUS is to become an internationally approved institution of higher education and research and a centre of excellence and quality through the shared efforts of the founders, academic and administrative staff, students and all stakeholders.

IUS aims at becoming the major hub in Balkans for bridging the East to the West as a leading international institution of higher education and research centre with comprehensive excellence and quality whose students are lifelong learners, inter-culturally competent and well-developed leaders in socio-economic development of societies.

Mission

The mission of IUS is to produce science, art, and technology and present it to the benefit of humanity; to educate free-thinking, participating, sharing, open-minded individuals who are open to change and improvement and who have the ability to transform knowledge into values of importance for themselves and the community. International University of Sarajevo (IUS), with its identity as an international institution of education and research is cooperating with universities in the region and in other countries in order to provide a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere of learning for students from a wide geography.

Being situated in a city unique for the special character of its heritage, city of peace and understanding where Muslim, Orthodox, Catholic and Jewish traditions have coexisted for centuries despite persistent attempts to destroy this harmony - this university provides exceptional conditions for developing research and educating students in the fields of history of arts and sciences. It will allow Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the meeting place of different civilizations, to help enlarge the knowledge and the values of our global heritage.

History

International University of Sarajevo (IUS) was established in the year of 2003, and is one of the largest educational projects in the Balkan region. At the very beginning, as a relatively young academic institution, IUS created an open, tolerant and international environment for its students, where young people have the opportunity to acquire new and exchange the existing knowledge and experiences with their fellow students and professors, but also with renewed guest speakers. In the past 12 years, higher education institutions offer good education to local and foreign students, for all three study cycles. The University has developed intensively throughout the years, and is among the first in Bosnia and Herzegovina who adopted the European standards of teaching. During undergraduate and postgraduate studies, students are developing in a quality intellectual atmosphere and are able to choose one of the 21 programs of studies within the 5 faculties, containing programs in different areas ranging from industrial engineering and computer sciences through art and social sciences, pedagogical sciences, law and up to business administration and humanities. Currently at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) we have up to 2000 students studying in all 3 cycles of studies, coming from all continents and 47 countries of the world.

An opportunity for those who studied and graduated at IUS, in a creative environment for intellectual development of young people, IUS enabled them to easily use those talents in the world of successful and trusted professionals and responsible citizens of B&H society, but also for those who come from different countries of the world. In addition to maintaining a high level of education of professionals of different profiles, IUS specially focuses on: affirmation of their own work and achievements, involvement in the international university community, and long term cooperation with related universities achieved through various projects and programs. In doing so, IUS was trying to attract and retain outstanding, qualified teachers and administrative staff which provide substantial contributions in the areas of their operations and participate in innovative research projects with the aim of continues improvement of service delivery to students and the community.

When founded, IUS had 14 employees and 68 students. The university currently employs more than 200 full time members of academic and administrative staff from more than 15 countries of the world. The investment, and all the previous work and effort invested in the idea of IUS, were realized through an open, spacious and meaningful campus, construction of facilities and contemporary university buildings, library, two comfortable student dormitories, a modern research center, as well as continues development of IUS capacities, including job opportunities and development of B&H society.
