Scarleteen has been a pioneering source of online inclusive sex and relationships information, education and support for young people since 1998. It was established in the write-it-yourself era of the internet, all hard-coded by founder Heather Corinna. The website became a Drupal 5 site in 2007 and anecdotally, in the early days, was one of the largest Drupal sites out there.

Serving millions of young people, answering their submitted questions, providing 1:1 support and publishing a library of resources, while still being run by a very small team of staff and volunteers, Scarleteen has continued to evolve alongside Drupal for the best part of two decades. This has involved multiple migrations to newer versions, experimentation with new features and various full redesigns of its custom theme and branding.

Scarleteen's independence and creativity as has been greatly complemented by working with the talented Drupal community helping it to persist as an early-web institution with it's DIY ethos and serving those in need, even while having to still defend free speech online and the rights of young people to access the very kinds of education and healthcare it provides and promotes.
